Project summary
Our former street kids in Honduras need their vitamins after being neglected and malnourished on the streets. By creating a small fruit plantation on our shelter grounds we can give them a healthy supplement to their diet and at the same time educate them about growing fruits.
How
After 5 years of experience in growing vegetables to feed our children, now we feel confident enough to also start growing fruit. We employ a full time planter that knows how to do this and makes sure everything goes alright. He also educates the children so they can assist and use the knowledge they gain in future jobs. We have the land, we have the enthusiasm, we now just need the money to get started!

- ProNiño is a shelter for former street children in El Progresso, Honduras, these kids are picked up from the street by the police or concerned citizens or sometimes show up themselves to our gates. Most of the children are undernourished and sometimes also addicted to drugs. We take them in, feed them, cloth them and school them, preparing them for a life as responsible adults. We now have 130 children in the ages between 6 and 18 spread over 2 locations. Although we feed them properly, we lack the funds to buy fruit on a regular base. And they so need the vitamins while growing up! Besides, these kids love fruit!

After meeting these children you are never the same again, they have suffered so much but are still full of life. This is inspiring and endearing making you want to help them where you can!
Relation between the project partner (excecution) and the project owner (fundraising)
I met the local partner while my wife and I were living in Honduras for 6 months and she was volunteering at the shelter. Since then I've become more and more involved in the foundation and am now helping with finding funds for projects like this one.
