The Baligiuan island (Philippines) is flat remote fishing island, which was hit by the Typhoon Haiyan in November 2013. A 20 feet tall wave and strong winds of up to 300Kmph destroyed houses, infrastructure and powersources on the island, leaving 95 families in the dark. Those 95 families are still living without access to power. Due to the location of the island it is not expected to be restored soon. To be able to live and work the community needs light. They now use dangerous kerosene lamps a few generators and torch lights. Due to the cost of generators and torchlights the kerosene lamps are used most frequently. The kerosene lamps are hazardous to health, can blind and burn the users next to causing severe lung problems. The community needs light, giving them solar powered lights will give them a better chance to rebuild their island.
When sufficient funds have been donated we will buy 190 Nokero N200 Solar lights. The Nokero N200 Crestone is the most economical solar light on the market. The Crestone is ideal for indoor and outdoor lighting, including feeding babies, cooking, reading, fishermen and emergency lighting. With the help of locals and humanitarian partners the lights will be transported to the island. The project will be photographed, documented and posted on the website of the project owner.
400 peoples divided over 95 families need light. With 190 solar lights, their future will be directly impacted, giving them the opportunity to rebuild their future in a sustainable way. The solar lights will provide clean energy for mother's to feed their babies, children to read and men to work after dark. Every donation of €11,- will change their lives. Providing them with 1 solar light.
