Goal summary

The main goal is to make education and all tools needed accessible to all 18 students, so they can finish High School/university successfully.

Project summary

Argentina suffered during most of the 20th century from a recurring economic crises, persistent fiscal and current account deficits, high inflation, mounting external debt, and capital flight. Because of that, the poor families have less money to buy their everyday food, tools for the school, clothes, etc. This project guarantees the education of able teenagers in Cordoba (Argentina), who can not afford their studies by sponsoring these students to complete their high school education by way of a scholarship.

How

The project will provide scholarships to 18 High School students, to help them finish their High School period. Ten of them are taking the last year of the course in 2011, and the other eight students will finish their High School period in 2012. The scholarship will include all the tools the students need to be successful at school, and will also offer them different educational activities. Activities are: 1) Buy books, school supplies, school's uniforms, everyday clothes, transportation from home to the school, monthly groceries for all the students. 2) Search for volunteers for the English and computer lessons; for the academic help and the different workshops 3) Make a calendar with the Saturday's activities 4) Make a plan to control the performance of the students in the school (passing grades or failing grades). Visit each school when necessary. This scholarship is a yearly scholarship and it gets renewed every year as long as the students meet the minimum requirements of: school grades, family support and economic needs.

Phases

  1. Cover Bas Needs 2 Scholars

    • First cover the basic needs of two scholars for 6 months. With €576 we cover expenses of two scholars's transportation to/from school for the first 6 months, buy all the school supplies and a reference book to study from, application to the local school, school and regular clothes and follow up person costs. The two scholars would be selected out of the current 18 scholars in the program. They would honor them with a guaranteed scholarship for a year(with phase II). Otherwise, we will have to start letting scholars go because we do not have enough funds.

  2. Cover + Needs of Scholars

    • In Phase II we will include within the scholarship, the rest of the items that should be included like yearly check ups and medical treatments, extracurricular activities, and tutoring costs. This is €576 that would last the rest of the six months for both scholars selected on Phase I to guarantee their scholarship for a year.
