Location

  • Valea Screzii
  • Valenii de Munte, Prahova
  • Romania

Goal summary

Bring hope. Provide shelter. Heal traumas. Give young mothers and their children in Valea Screzii a second chance to normality. This project will help improve the basic infrastructure of the House of Hope, which is a safe haven for young mothers and their children who have escaped abusive relationships and poor living conditions.

Project summary

The House of Hope needs better flooring, thermal insulation, new windows and doors and an electrical system. This project also aims to give these women access to more regular professional and psychological counseling for long term development and integration.

How

The house renovation phase will be done by the local team of constructors already working for the community. They are the ones helping expanding the village as new and new children and families in need ask for shelter. The psychological counseling is meant to cover a period of six months, 3 days / week and will be done by a state approved child psychologist Liliana Urzeala. Mrs. Urzeala is already giving her time to the people here but her time is limited and our aim is to extend her time spent in the house to three days per week.

Beneficiaries

  • 80
  • Every year, approximately 30 young mothers are given a home in the House of Hope, along their approximately 50 children of all ages. Some stay in the community for short term, others remain for longer time moving forward with helping the other children in the Valea Screzii village.

Why (Project owners drive)

Simply because we all know how thin is the line between a crisis situation that resolves into a success life story, versus a crisis that is let to evolve into a tragic outcome: with no help, these women will get into increased poverty, their children will have virtually no chance to education or proper health care, not to mention higher risks of being forced into prostitution or into beggar networks, or developing drug addictions. In Romania we have a saying: gift from gift, heaven is made. I truly believe that together we can make a small corner of heaven for these women and their children and give them a chance to normality. 3 years ago when I first visited Valea Screzii I was deeply touched by what I saw there. My promise to myself was that I will try to help in any way I can. Meeting Ruxandra and finding out about GET IT DONE gave me a chance to make that promise hopefully come true!

Relation between the project partner (excecution) and the project owner (fundraising)

In our pursuit to help the community in Valea Screzii we came to meet with the wonderful people from Pro Vita and Arsenie Boca Foundations, which have for so many years continuously support the children and their mothers there.

Phases

  1. Heal wounds. Bring hope.

    • While the house starts to be renovated, our care goes to the young mothers that arrive here after traumatic experiences. Sometimes stronger crisis intervention is needed to stabilize them and get them out to start trusting again that the world can be a happy place for them. State approved child psychologist Liliana Urzeala will join the House of Hope to give mothers and their children counseling and support on a more regular basis (3 days per week for 6 months).
