Goal summary

Give a voice to the children of Syria by providing them with music workshops and a documentary. The project will culminate with a live concert as a wake up call to the world's passive attitude towards violence in Syria.

Project summary

Syrian families lost everything and had to flee in panic during attacks of the Army of Assad. Every day, several thousand of refugees arrive and are offered only very basic shelters. The location of the camp is in the middle of a very dusty desert, so the conditions are harsh and the children suffer from inhalation problems and malnutrition. There are many children that lost one or both parents, brothers or sisters. In addition to the physical suffering, the emotional damage is substantial.

How

A team of forty people will organise benefits actions to get as many people and donations as possible. After this we will travel to the refugee camp with ten professional people. Their job: music workshops, document stories, write stories. When back we spread those stories to the world.

Beneficiaries

  • 240
  • The children of the Syrian refugee camps suffer not only physically but also emotionally. Music is a strong tool to reach to the heart and give a voice to traumatized young people. We coordinate closely with UNICEF. We fill some of the gaps in aid that UNICEF perceives. Every class is about 40 children. We hope to target 6 classes every day, so this is 240 children. We work for 5 days with more or less the same children. In the final show we hope to perform for about 600 children as an audience.

Why (Project owners drive)

He wants to give these children the possibility to share their story with each other and the rest of the world. He wants to tell those people are no different than we are and they need help. He will create a wake up call to the world's passive attitude towards violence in Syria. With this project he tries to create and stimulate active connections with e.g. people in the Netherlands and the Syrian, people who didn't make it into the current news coverage. Moreover, the stories of children and their families in refugee camps tell us so much more about the situation than just images of smoke and ruins.
