The Mayan women that Y'abal Handicrafts works with are fine weavers--yet cannot sew, which reduces their income possibilities. With poor treatment and high violence against women in Guatemala, it is of utmost important that they have opportunities for financial independence and personal growth.
Organize sewing classes and provide equipment to properly train these Mayan women to sew high quality products to be sold at local markets. This creates income opportunities for the women, and improvement of the living conditions and future prospects in their communities.
To improve the sewing skills of 30 Mayan women and thus assist them in producing high quality products of their own woven fabrics which they can then sell at the local market. This will create economic empowerment and help in reducing poverty in their villages.
